The Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT) Srinagar has started a six month vocational training course in carpet weaving for the persons belonging to Backward Classes.

“The programme is first in a series of vocational trainings supported by the National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC) to be conducted by IICT,” an official statement said this evening.

The statement added that the objective of conducting of Certificate Course in Carpet Weaving is to impart skill of carpet weaving to freshers so that they can earn livelihood in their respective households without making any major investment.

“After successful completion of the vocational training, the trainees will be linked to Micro Credit Scheme of NBCFDC for financial assistance for their gainful employment.”
