SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in North Kashmir’s Handwara seized nine tractors involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from various locations.
“Acting on specific inputs, police teams from multiple stations conducted coordinated enforcement drives. During the operation, the vehicles were found transporting minerals without valid documentation, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the violators under relevant provisions of law,” police spokesperson said in a statement.
Police said that strict action will continue against those involved in illegal mineral extraction, which harms public health, damages the environment, and affects government revenue. The public has been urged to report any illegal mining activities in their areas.
