SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police, in their ongoing drive against illegal mining in Baramulla, have registered 30 cases and arrested 51 persons for their involvement in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals during the first two months of 2024.

Additionally, 51 vehicles, including 19 tippers, 31 tractors, and an excavator, used in the illegal transport of minerals, have been seized from various areas of the district.

“Baramulla Police, in collaboration with the Mineral Department, has collected fines amounting to lakhs of rupees for illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in the district. The police are committed to taking action against violators who exploit the night hours to illegally extract minerals, posing risks to people’s health, the ecology, and the government’s revenue.” a police spokesperson said in a statement.
