The demolished structure belonged to Mohammad Irfan Sheikh alias Iff, son of Mohammad Ashraf Sheikh, a resident of Pamposh Colony, Palpora Noorbagh, who is described by police as a habitual narcotics offender involved in multiple NDPS Act cases.

According to police, Sheikh is implicated in FIR No. 134/2024 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act registered at Police Station Safakadal, and FIR No. 48/2025 under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Sangam.

Investigations revealed that the structure was constructed illegally on land allegedly acquired and developed using proceeds from narcotics trafficking, in violation of revenue laws and without lawful authorisation. Authorities said due legal procedures were followed before carrying out the demolition, in coordination with concerned departments.

Police further stated that members of the accused’s family and close associates are also reportedly involved in multiple NDPS cases across the Valley, suggesting a wider drug trafficking network.

Terming the action as part of its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, Srinagar Police said the move sends a clear message that properties acquired through illegal narcotics trade will be identified and demolished.

The police also urged citizens to cooperate in efforts to dismantle drug networks and protect youth from substance abuse.
