Er-RashidIn a first event of its kind by independent lawmaker representing Langate constituency from North Kashmir’s Kupwara districts, Er Rashid Tuesday declared to award top and meritorious students in his constituency.

“Any nation can wait for solution of developmental and political issues but not for education,” he said addressing annual day function at High School Haril in Langate.

Rashid said, “Kashmiri students have suffered worst during last 25 years on account of the disturbance in state. Not only that youth became victims of violence but frequent strikes, crackdowns and atrocities of security forces forced thousands of children to give-up their education, but also had adverse effect on their mind set and they started feeling isolated and led down at all fronts. It is duty of the society, teachers and parents to ensure that students especially to higher secondary level are kept away from political and other issues and they should be persuaded to focus on their education.”

Rashid who was physically assaulted and the attacked with black ink said, “government needs to bring revolutionary changes in the education policy and that can only be achieved if education sector is kept out of political interference.”

Rashid announced establishing of “best students award” for 10th class students for his constituency through “Joint Effort Trust” (JET) and added that the first top three students of class 10th exam hailing from Langate Constituency will get a cash prize of Rs 50,000/=, 30,000/= and 20,000/= respectively.

“The award will be given every year and it will start from current academic session. The purpose of the award will be to encourage good students and also to create enthusiasm for competitive exams,” Rashid told the gathering.
