SRINAGAR

In an unprecedented move, Independent lawmaker Er Rashid Thursday strongly criticized Union Government for “interfering in various affairs of the State Government, which do not pertain to government of India”.

“The way Ministry of Home Affairs forced State Government to lodge FIR against Syed Ali Geelani and Masarat Alam is highly condemnable and amounts to undermining the authority of State Government,” Er Rashid said in a statement issued by Awami Itehad Party.

“It is not only first time that GoI has issued directions to the State Government over an issue none of its business but GoI has been undermining authority of every Kashmiri leader from Prime Minister Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah right up to its new darling Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. Whether it was imposing or relaxing curfew in Omar Abdullah’s regime, removal of Disturbed Areas Act, transfers of IAS and IPS officers or dealing with other very minor issues, the directions have been continuously passed on by New Delhi, thus proving the trust deficit between New Delhi and Srinagar,” he alleged adding, “Let Mufti Sahab confess that whether it was disgracing the honour of State Flag, providing township to Kashmiri Pandits, granting citizenship to West Pakistani refugees, release of political prisoners or other smaller issues Mufti Sahab has to obey the orders of New Delhi and act like a rubber stamp.”

He said, “rather than making hue and cry over hoisting of Pakistani flags in Geelani’s rally, let GoI introspect that why it failed miserably in winning hearts and minds of Kashmiri people.”
