In a first of its kind, Mohammad Ismail Shah, 48 son of Abdur Raheem Shah, resident of Kulgam was killed after being attacked by his jail mate in Srinagar Central Jail with a stone Saturday morning.

Arrested in a murder case under 302, Shah was lodged in Srinagar central jail on September 2009.  He according to sources had heated arguments with another jail mate, Ghulam Hassan Malik son of Fateh Mohammad Malik, resident of Saidpora Shopian. Malik is accused of killing his daughter in law and some another person four years ago.

According to sources, Malik hit the head of Shah several times with stone, when the later was sleeping, resulting in his severe head injuries.

Shah was immediately shifted to SKIMS Soura where he succumbed to his injuries. Sources added.

Police confirmed the death of Shah and said that another case under 302 has been registered against Malik.

Meanwhile scared by the incident, separatists lodged in central jail Srinagar and their relatives have expressed concern about their security. Sources told Kashmir Life that many  political detenues are lodged  in the barracks of dreaded criminals.
