Jammu and Kashmir Government Thursday suggested an all-party meet to discuss increase in Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and salary of lawmakers.

The lawmakers from across the party divide have been demanding increase in their salaries and CDF and same has been dominating major part of their speeches in state legislature which is currently in session.

Responding to debate on JK Budget presented by FinMin on May 30, 2016, Economist Dr Haseeb A Drabu said that increase in salary or CDF “won’t affect finances neither would it be a burden”.

“At the end of this session, I propose an all-party meet,” Dr Drabu said in his 60-minute response, “let us discuss it there.”

He said that he is aware that inspite of him being a minister, “all of us are MLAs”.

“As far as CDF is concerned,” he said, “it is my personal view, as a policy maker, that CDF should not be an alternative plan.”

“It should not be a parallel empire,” he asserted, “however, it eases local lawmakers their burden. It helps them to solve issues utilizing CDF at their own.”
