Mohammad Sadiq Baig, brother of PDP’s senior leader from district Baramullah Muzaffar Hussain Baig has decided to contest the upcoming elections from Sangrama constituency as an independent candidate against PDP’s Syed Basharat Bukhari.

Talking to KNS, Mohammad Sadiq Baig said: “The party (PDP) has sidelined everybody. I have been working as district vice president Baramullah since 2007 but all in vain. The name of PDP candidate Syed Basharat Bukhari has been announced from Gupkar and no panel was sought from the ground. No party workers were consulted before announcing his name.”

When asked what impact his decision to contest against his own party candidate will have on relations with his brother Muzaffar Hussain Baig, he said: “The party politics is different from the family. These entirely two different things. It will have no impact on our relations,” Sadiq said.

Pertinently, soon after the announcement of its list of candidates for different constituencies, PDP is grappling with infighting and undercurrent rebellion. The ruling National Conference that announced a list of 32 candidates in first phase, is reportedly also delaying its rest of the nominations fearing worst ever infighting over candidature.
