SRINAGAR: INDIA bloc constituents staged protests in Srinagar and Ganderbal district on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and a transparent inquiry into the alleged deletion of names from electoral rolls.

In Srinagar, opposition leaders attempted to march outside the Congress headquarters but were prevented from proceeding, as protesters raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the revision of voter lists.
Leaders and workers of the opposition alliance participated in the demonstrations, demanding accountability from the Election Commission of India (ECI) and calling for a thorough investigation into the alleged removal of voters’ names.
The protests were part of the INDIA bloc’s campaign against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, an exercise that opposition parties have criticised over concerns that eligible voters could be excluded from the lists.
The demonstrators called for a review of the revision process and the restoration of names allegedly removed without proper justification. They maintained that such deletions, if established, could undermine voters’ rights.
Opposition leaders also stressed the need for transparency in the preparation and revision of electoral rolls, urging election authorities to investigate the allegations and take corrective measures wherever irregularities are found.
The allegations have been raised by opposition parties, which have sought greater accountability from the election authorities over the revision exercise.
