SRINAGAR: India and China have affirmed their commitment to address the outstanding matters along the Line of Actual Control (LaC) in eastern Ladakh , according to a joint statement issued on Tuesday.

This declaration comes a day after the conclusion of a two-day military dialogue between the two nations.

The statement said, “Positive, constructive, and comprehensive discussions were conducted between the two parties concerning the resolution of remaining LAC issues within the Western Sector.” It emphasised that these exchanges were carried out in accordance with leadership directives and with a forward-looking perspective.

The 19th edition of the India-China Corps Commander-level meeting transpired at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side from August 13 to 14. This meeting marked the first instance of high-level military deliberations extending over two days, underscoring the significance of the subject matter.

Both sides have concurred to expedite the resolution of these lingering concerns while upholding the ongoing momentum of dialogue and negotiations, facilitated through both military and diplomatic channels. The Ministry of External Affairs released a statement confirming this accord and also underlined the importance of maintaining peaceful and harmonious conditions on the ground within border regions during this interim phase.

For over three years, Indian and Chinese forces have been engaged in a standoff in specific friction points within eastern Ladakh. While several areas have witnessed disengagement following extensive diplomatic and military consultations, certain areas remain points of contention between the two countries.
