SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that the much-delayed Indoor Stadium project at Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is only 45 per cent complete, with the revised deadline for completion now set for March 2027.
In a written reply to a question raised by legislator Irshad Rasool Kar, the government stated that the construction work was not executed by the Youth Services and Sports Department but was carried out by the District Administration Baramulla during 2017-18 under the Special Area Development Programme (SADP).
According to the reply, the project has been plagued by delays primarily due to the stoppage of funds in 2019. “The funding to the said scheme was stopped in the year 2019 and as such the scheme could not be completed till date resulting in its delay,” the government informed the House.
The government further stated that the project is now expected to be completed by March 2027, subject to the availability of balance funds, after which it will be inaugurated. The information was provided based on a communication from the office of the District Development Commissioner, Baramulla, dated January 29, 2026.
The disclosure came on the first day of the second leg of the legislative assembly session, which resumed after the Eid break. (KNS)
