SRINAGAR: A gunfight ensued between Army troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) and a group of militants attempting infiltration from across the border on Monday morning. As per officials, the troops in Degwar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district detected the movement of the militants trying to sneak in under the cover of darkness.

An encounter ensued as the security forces engaged the infiltrators.

According to reports, two militants are believed to have been killed during the gunfight, but their bodies have not been recovered yet.

“Joint team of Army and police confronted the two infiltrating terrorists in Garhi Battalion area around 2 am. One of the terrorists was immediately neutralized, while the second one attempted to escape back to the LoC. However, he was also engaged and hit, ultimately falling to the ground,” Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Barthwal stated said.

The movement was initially detected in the general area of Degwar Terva. The operation is still ongoing, and further details are yet to be released.
