Army on Monday claimed to have killed a militant after they foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector of frontier Kupwara district in North Kashmir.

While talking to GNS, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kupwara based 28 Div, Major General Lalit Panday said that a group of three militants were spotted by soldiers at Line of Control (LoC) near Shalabatoo Post in Keran Sector during wee hours Monday.

“Militants were asked to surrender, however they opened indiscriminate fire on the soldiers upon which the fire was retaliated triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight an unidentified militant wearing Pathani dress was killed and other two militants were injured,” the official said, adding that they managed to move back.

The officer said that two AK-47 rifles and large quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the slain militant.

“No one successfully entered into our side,” he said adding that operation in the area is still going on.

Pertinently, on July 9, five militants were killed when Army foiled an infiltration bid in Keran sector.

On July 19, an unidentified militant was killed after army claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Gurez Sector.
