Close to the heels of a daring ink attack on MLA Langate Er Rashid in New Delhi, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee Monday issued a statement expressing surprise over the “waning” tolerance in the country.

In a fresh statement, Mukherjee asked if tolerance and acceptance of dissent was on wane.

Maintaining that humanism and pluralism must not be abandoned, Mukherjee expressed hope that divisive force will be eliminated.

Earlier today, right-wing activists blackened Rashid over his recent beef party which angered many Hindu nationalists across spectrum.

Rashid held a press conference at Press Club in New Delhi along with relatives of the two truck drivers who were burnt by a communal Hindu mob at Udhampur in Jammu region on 9 October.

One of the victims 19-year-old Zahid died at Safdarjung hospital yesterday forenoon triggering clashes across Jammu and Kashmir valley but district of Jammu.
