Massive clashes erupted in Nowhatta area of Old City in Srinagar after the Friday prayers as the youth assembled raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

Scores of youth assembled in Nowhatta chowk and shouted massive slogans in favour of Azadi and against India. “The protesters were raising slogans favouring militants. They also raised slogans favoring Hizb commander Sabzar Ahmad Bhat,” reports said.

Forces deployed in the chowk stopped the protesters who pelted stones on the forces personnel thereby triggering massive clashes in the area. Police used tear smoke shells and stun grenades to disperse the protesting civilian protesters.

Reports said that a local photojournalist, working with a local daily suffered minor injuries in the clashes. He was rushed to a local dispensary and provided necessary medical aid.
