Srinagar

Fearing student protests in the city areas, the Srinagar district administration on Friday ordered extension in the suspension of class work in all Degree Colleges and Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) tomorrow (Saturday) in the jurisdiction of Srinagar city.

Reports said that for the past 34 days, the district administration has shut schools and colleges for more than two weeks.

A number of Degree Colleges and HSS’s have protested in the past few weeks against forces’ highhandedness in educational institutions across Kashmir, particularly Pulwama.

A number of students have been arrested while many others have suffered injuries.

“Teaching activity will remain suspended in Degree colleges and Higher Secondary Schools of district Srinagar on June 3,” Srinagar district administration officials said.

Sources said that in the backdrop of recent militant killings in southern and northern parts of Kashmir particularly, the killing of Sabzar Bhat in Tral on Saturday, government fears students’ might again hit roads and protest the killings. “Therefore the educational institutions have been shut.”
