SRINAGAR: The International Mathematical Union is organising the IMU Breakout Graduate Fellowship Programme for international students to pursue a PhD in mathematics.

The application deadline is May 31, 2024.

To be eligible, candidates must be citizens and residents of developing countries, have a thesis advisor and a research project, and either be enrolled in a recognized doctoral program or pre-accepted to join a doctoral program in the first academic year after selection.

Furthermore, students cannot directly apply for the fellowship; they must be nominated by a professional mathematician.

Required documents include a statement from the nominator, a scanned copy of the student nominee’s passport, an official letter of pre-acceptance into the PhD program, a budget detailing annual expenses, the CV of the PhD supervisor, the research project proposal, two letters of recommendation, certified transcripts of coursework for both BSc and MSc degrees or equivalents, the nominee’s CV, and a letter of motivation outlining their future plans. Declarations from the nominator, PhD supervisor, and nominee are also required.

Selected candidates will receive a grant of USD 10,000 per year, covering tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation, and basic living requirements.
