On the International Women’s Day, the Department of Social Work, University of Kashmir organized a one-day program in collaboration with State Resource Centre for Women (J&K) at Ibn Khaldun Auditorium, Allama Iqbal Library, University of Kashmir.

International Women’s Day Celebrated At KU

The theme for the program to mark this year’s International Women’s Day was “Think Equal, Build Smart”, Innovate for change.

The program proceedings included panel discussions and speeches by various experts. A documentary on “Hamari Beti” was screened which was followed by a “Signature Campaign”.

Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar University  of Kashmir, in his speech talked about the rights of women and highlighted the significance of International Women’Day

He assured the support of university administration in every endeavor that will promote women empowerment.

Prof Asifa Jan, Dean School of Social Sciences, in her address emphasized on the need to give women equal space and opportunity in every field so that they can showcase their talent and abilities. Dr Aadil Bashir, Co-ordinator  Social Work, stressed on the need for close co-operation of various stakeholders to ensure justice, equality and non-discrimination of women in the society.

He shared the findings of the research undertaken by the department on domestic Violence in Kashmir.

Sameena Mir, Gender Expert in her speech deliberated upon various schemes and programs launched by the central and state Government from time to time for the upliftment and overall development of women.

Media Coordinator University of Kashmir Muslim Jan emphasized upon the need of women to be strong and develop the leadership qualities. She talked about the contribution of women in the development of society.

Javaid Rashid, Assistant Professor social work conducted the proceedings of the event.
