SRINAGAR: A soldier and a militant were killed in an encounter on Friday as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials told news gatherer, KNS.

Defence sources said the bid was foiled in the wee hours as Army noticed suspicious movement close to the LoC at the frontier district’s Tangdhar sector. The officer said the infiltrators on being challenged opened fire, triggering the gun battle. In the firing exchange, a militant and an army soldier were also killed.

After the operation was over, a search operation was launched in the forest area to trace other members of the infiltrating group.

The army officer identified the slain soldier as jawan Jasvir Singh of 6 JAK Rifle. Besides, he said that one AK-47, four pistols, three AK-47 magazines, three pistol magazines, five grenades, Pakistani currency and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the killed infiltrator.
