Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ms Mehbooba Mufti has been served a show cause notice by the Election Commission for alleged “violation” of model code of conduct while filing her nomination for the Islamabad Assembly seat by-poll.
State Chief Electoral Officer Shantmanu said that the notice was served following objection that the car in which she had come on June 1 to file her nomination papers was carrying the national as well as the state flags, which is not allowed. The notice was issued to her on June 2, he said.
Another objection that she was using an official car was overruled as she is a Z-plus protectee and is authorised to use an official vehicle, he said. Mehbooba is contesting the Islamabad by-poll to be held on June 22. The by-election was necessitated following the demise of her father and the then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed here.
