housingThe government on Saturday revealed in the state legislative assembly that the Housing Board is setting up a housing colony in Srinagar. It is in the process of the acquiring land.

The colony is being established in Rabirgarh / Partapgarh where the process of acquiring 726 kanals and 18 marlas of land has been initiated. “The revenue authorities have been requested to intimate average sale rate for the last three years and the current stamp rates for the land in question and adjoining areas,” the government response said.

Besides, the government said that Srinagar Development Authority is also in the process of identifying new areas which will be developed for residential purposes. SDA has already initiated two vertical hosing projects Gulposh and Shehjar which, the government said, will cater to the housing problems of the Srinagar city “to a large extent”. SDA had already created EWS Noorbagh Housing Colony that is in desperate requirement of repairs.

SDA, the government said has 11 plots, mostly in Bemina vacant for allotment. Besides, it has 162 plots of different sizes in different colonies of Bemina “reserved for SDA employees” but this chunk is disputed. It also has 12 vacant plots at Sumerbugh reserved for Schutikhul dwellers and nine plots in its Noorbagh colony reserved for River Jhelum dwellers.

The government also has 200 plots available in its Housing Colony at Kathua.

The government also informed that it had initiated the process of regularizing 21 new housing colonies in Jammu but the court stay has stopped the process.
