Aiming at promoting and marketing the Kashmiri handicraft products manufactured by the women Self Help Groups of Kokernag, NABARD has sanctioned first-ever Rural Mart in J&K state at Kokernag area of Islamabad under its Rural Mart Scheme.

The spokesman said the Rural Mart was inaugurated by Vijay Kumar, Chief General Manager, NABARD J&K along with DGM NABARD Kashmir, DDM NABARD Islamabad, MD Islamabad CCB, LDM, officials from Handicraft Department and members of SHGs also present.

The mart, he said has been set up under total grant support from NABARD and would help the SHGs to market their products and realize better sales.

Vijay Kumar lauded the efforts of SHGs in the area for their joint effort and hard work.

He informed that this rural mart was the first such Mart opened in J&K and would look forward to sanction many more to well-performing SHGs.

He urged the people to support the empowerment of women by way of forming the Self-help groups and getting the benefit of various schemes. He elaborated on various schemes being implemented by the NABARD for em the owerment of women.

Locals present at the inaugural ceremony applauded NABARD for its schemes and assured to make use of the opportunity to promote and market these products directly to the consumers.

They thanked NABARD for its initiatives towards empowerment of women and also extending support to handicraft artisans.
