Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti Saturday reiterated her resolve to carry forward the “mission and vision” of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for ushering Jammu and Kashmir “into an era of peace, stability and prosperity”.

“PDP has established clear political priorities and we would continue our struggle to seek resolution of the multiple problems faced by Jammu and Kashmir on political, economic, developmental, administrative and financial fronts,” Ms Mehbooba Mufti said while addressing a series of roadside public meetings during day-long campaigning for by-poll to Islamabad assembly segment, wherefrom she is seeking mandate as a PDP candidate.

The by-elections to Islamabad assembly segment, necessitated due to the demise of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, are slated to be held on June 22.

Mehbooba said PDP began its journey in 1999 under the visionary leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed “to transform the monopolistic political course” in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The party established clear political priorities for itself and focused on them relentlessly to pull the State out of the morass of instabilities and uncertainties plaguing it for the past more than six decades,” she said and added that with the “unflinching” support of the people PDP has emerged as a premier regional political force within a short span of 16 years.

“The driving force for PDP’s emergence as a robust regional force is the public support it has got for its pro-people policies, without which the party could have not achieved much,” she said.

“I compliment the PDP cadres for effectively carrying the party’s pro-people agenda to the grassroots and working tirelessly towards implementation of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s political, economic and developmental vision for Jammu and Kashmir,” she said and added that during his more than six decades long political career Mufti Sahab most of the times “went against the tide” as his decisions were driven by people’s interests and not by “any desire for power”.

“We would continue to work towards accomplishing the vision of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to create a space of dignity, opportunity and prosperity for the people of Jammu & Kashmir,” she asserted and said that like other parts of the State, Mufti Sahab always “wanted to restore the historic glory of Islamabad, which has faced huge development deficit due to political neglect in the past”.

“I will try to realize my father’s dream of addressing the developmental concerns of the people in every part of the State including Islamabad,” she said and added that the results of the “path-breaking developmental and welfare initiatives taken by the government headed by her would be visible on the ground soon and the people would get the much-needed relief on various counts including employment avenues for youth”.

“PDP is committed to the welfare of the common men and women of Jammu and Kashmir and as a part of the coalition government in the State, the party is working tirelessly to implement its welfare agenda,” she said and added that whether in or outside power, PDP has “stood by the people of the State and never compromised on their interests and it would continue to uphold the same ideals”.
