While hinting to start a “joint agitation program” by the pro-freedom leadership against the creation of Sainik Colony, separate Pandit clusters and the new industrial policy, Chairperson Hurriyat Conference (g) Syed Ali Geelani Friday appealed for complete boycott of the upcoming assembly elections for Islamabad seat.

He said, “we have a set policy regarding the every type of election drama held in Jammu & Kashmir that instead of a democratic practice, the elections in Kashmir in the presence of 10 lakh heavily armed Indian forces are just military exercises and India uses it as an argument in the international forums to justify its forced occupation here and portrays it as referendum of the Kashmiri people in its favour.”

In a statement issued to KNS, Syed Ali Geelani threw an open challenge to the Unionist parties and the government that “remove a thousand forces camps from the civil populations, release the pro-freedom leadership, lift the ban over their political activities and let the people decide freely that which side they are, I challenge you that holding of election dramas in Jammu & Kashmir will no more be possible for them”.

“The election dramas in Kashmir are military exercises and a one-sided game in which a single team is allowed to play in the field who won the game unopposed because no one is going to stop their ball,” he said.

Geelani suggested Ms Mehbooba Mufti that to “prove his point”, he should be released from his house detention and allowed to visit Islamabad constituency just for 5 odd days and let him freely meet the people of the area, then “everybody will come to know the actual percentage” of people’s participation in this military exercise.

“Alike the pro-election parties, we should also be given a chance to present our mandate before the public and only then this election will be called as a democratic practice otherwise it is just a joke which has no moral or constitutional status,” he added.

Geelani reminded that in recently held elections in Syrian, the government there claimed that 80% people have voted in them but the international community rejected this election on the grounds that the elections held in the conflict zones under the supervision of the ruling class are meaningless and have no credibility. “Same is the case with Jammu & Kashmir and the elections held in this disputed region are in no way worth to be called as a democratic process.”

The pro-freedom leader while addressing the people of the area said, “every household in Kashmir has faced the oppression in one way or the other and the people of this land have sacrificed their loved ones in this freedom struggle. Now is the time to show respect and protect these sacrifices and the few people who vote in these election dramas are not only committing an act of treason but their actions also lengthen our journey to freedom and acts as oxygen for the Indian forced occupation in Kashmir.”

Geelani further said that the people who ask for votes in the name of power, roads and water or who vote these people is their stupidity because every government are duty bound to make these things available to the people and against this they collect taxes from the public. “It is not any favour from the government to the people but it is the hard earned money of the people which is spent on their welfare.”

“All the pro-Indian parties are alike and no one among them is a lesser evil. Whoever among the pro-Indian parties rule the Jammu & Kashmir state acts as agents of Indian imperialism,” he said.

Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson said, “they all are exploiting the freedom sentiments of the Kashmiri people in one way or the other. People should not fall prey to their sweet words and slogans.”
