Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh visiting a training centre in Sopore that Himayat is operating. This is the first visit of any central government minister to the region after Afzal Guru was hanged in February.

The minister who drove to Sopore last year was advised by state government to fly to the venue. Sources in the state government said that top police officers personally talked to the minister requesting him to use chopper insisted of a car. He finally gave in late last night and agreed to fly to a location that is not so close to the venue of his interaction with Himayat trainees.

“It was a great show,” a senior official said. “There were trainees and in certain cases their parents as well and minister talked to them in details.”
