Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday expressed “concern over the arrest spree of the youth of Palhallan, Pattan and termed it a “deliberate” attempt by forces to disrupt peaceful atmosphere in the valley.

In a statement issued here, a spokesperson of Jama’at said, “The way government forces have started a fresh arrest spree in Palhallan Pattan area has created uneasiness among local populace and disrupts atmosphere in valley”.

The statement termed the tactics adopted by police in valley “similar to the tactics espoused by Israeli forces while dealing with the people of Palestine”.

“This hateful behaviour depicts police and other government forces in a well-thought design pushing the youth of valley to the wall,” the statement said.

“Jama’at denounces these suppressive tactics by police and demands the early release of all detainees which are a virtually grave violation of human rights and tantamount to boil the peaceful atmosphere in the valley,” it said.
