The Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu Kashmir has expressed its deep concern over the ongoing crackdown on youth by the police to deter them from voicing their displeasure over the hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru.

The Jamaat-e-Islami in a statement said, “In a real democracy, the people have the right to express their resentment over any anti-people activities of the State but in Kashmir the people have been deprived of this cherished right.”

“The way Afzal Guru was hanged secretly outright rejection of their demand to hand over his body, depicts the callous indifferent and discriminatory attitude of the government of India towards the hapless people of Kashmir,” the statement added.

“Jamaat-e-Islami demands an immediate halt to the threatening policies against the people and also unconditional release of all detainees languishing in different jails and police stations,” it held.
