Authorities on Saturday slapped Public Safety Act (PSA) on Jama’at-e-Islami and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) leaders who were arrested on May 6 soon after they participated in the funeral prayers of a slain university professor, Dr Mohammad Rafi at central Kashmir’s  Ganderbal district.

Bashir Ahmad Lone 58, a resident of Saidapora Harwan district president  Jama’at for Srinagar had led the funeral prayers of Hizb militant at Ganderbal and addressed the mourners while as TeH district president Mohammad Rafiq Shah was among thousands who attended the funeral prayers.

Family sources said that Lone is a close friend of Dr Rafi ’s father Adul Rahim Bhat.

Jama’at spokesman said that orders to slap PSA on the said leaders were issue late last night and were implemented early today.

Dr Rafi Ahmad, six civilians and four militants including Hizb commander Saddam Paddar were killed in Badigam village of Shopian on May 6, 2018.
