SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved a ₹15.22 crore project to augment the Kathua Grid Station by increasing its capacity from 3×50 MVA to 4×50 MVA, a move aimed at strengthening the power transmission network and improving electricity supply in the region.
According to an official statement issued on Friday, the project includes the installation of an additional 50 MVA transformer and execution of allied infrastructure works at the grid station.
The capacity enhancement is expected to improve the reliability and stability of the transmission system, reduce overloading and ensure better quality power supply to consumers in Kathua and adjoining areas, where electricity demand has been steadily increasing.
Officials said the augmentation will help meet the region’s growing power requirements while strengthening the overall transmission infrastructure.
The project is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to modernise and expand Jammu and Kashmir’s power network to provide a more dependable and efficient electricity supply, while supporting economic growth and development across the Union Territory.
