SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday secured the gold medal (state category B) at the national One District One Product (ODOP) awards ceremony, held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in Delhi.

Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director of Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organisation (JKTPO), accepted the award.

The event, part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav 2024, honoured contributors to the ODOP Initiative, showcasing India’s cultural richness, diverse heritage, artistic skills, and entrepreneurial spirit.

The Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir also received recognition with a bronze award in the Agriculture sector category, emphasising its notable contribution to ODOP, particularly in horticulture, focusing on apples.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal extended congratulations to the awardees and urged them to continue motivating others to promote ODOP products, benefiting local weavers, artisans, and farmers.

Highlighting the efforts of Indian Missions Abroad during the G20 summit, Piyush Goyal expressed anticipation for the continued growth of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Utsav. Union Minister of External Affairs, Dr S Jaishankar, emphasised ODOP’s significant role in representing India’s diversity on the global stage, impacting foreign policy, foreign economic policy, and foreign commerce policy.

Dr Jaishankar expressed confidence that ODOP would contribute to stronger tourism as more people become aware of India’s rich art, culture, and history. JKTPO, instrumental in promoting ODOP, remains committed to further boosting these initiatives with a comprehensive plan focusing on products from each district.
