SRINAGAR: A constable involved in criminal activities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district has been dismissed from service, police said on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, ” Constable Sham Lal was dismissed for involvement in multiple criminal cases, including murder. He joined District Kishtwar on 9 November 2023 while under suspension for prolonged absence and criminal activities. Granted a three-day leave on 12 November 2023, he failed to return and was marked absent. During this period, he was involved in the murder of Rajesh Dogra, alias Mohan Teer, registered under FIR No. 19/2024 dated 4 March 2024 at Police Station Phase-II, Mohali. He was arrested by Punjab Police on 7 March 2024 and lodged in New District Jail Nabha.”
A departmental enquiry, conducted by revealed Constable Lal’s involvement in other criminal cases. The enquiries recommended his dismissal due to habitual absenteeism and a criminal mindset.
“Following these recommendations, SSP Kishtwar dismissed Constable Sham Lal from service, effective from his absence date of 15 November 2023, as per District Police Office order No. 201 of 2024 dated 24 June 2024, under Police Rule-337 read with Rule 359 (11) (2) (b) of J&K Police Manual Volume-II, in line with Articles 113 and 128 of J&K CSR,” it reads.
SSP Kishtwar issued a warning to all police personnel that involvement in anti-national activities, drug trafficking, or heinous crimes will result in strict disciplinary actions, reaffirming the police’s commitment to high standards of conduct and integrity, the statement said.
