Jammu and Kashmir Experiences Varying Rainfall Patterns in March

   

SRINAGAR: The week-long wet spell that ended on March 16 in Jammu and Kashmir helped reduce the significant rainfall deficit across 17 districts, with Srinagar among nine districts recording average rainfall between March 1 and March 19.

During this period, Jammu and Kashmir experienced a 16 percent rainfall deficit, receiving 80.2 mm of precipitation against an average of 95.2 mm.

According to the data, nine districts—Srinagar, Anantnag, Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Ramban, Kishtwar, Kulgam, and Kupwara—reported average rainfall in the past 19 days, while Bandipora in north Kashmir recorded 23 percent excess rainfall.

However, three districts—Reasi, Samba, and Kathua—recorded a large rainfall deficit, with respective deficiencies of 69 percent, 71 percent, and 81 percent.

Pulwama in South Kashmir was the only district where large excess rainfall was recorded, receiving 72 percent above-normal precipitation.

Doda, Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, and Udhampur recorded deficit rainfall ranging between 20 percent and 59 percent this month so far.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted generally dry weather conditions until the evening of March 26.

According to the forecast, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, stated that a fresh spell of light rain and snow (in higher reaches) is expected at scattered places on March 27 and 28.

He further added that generally dry weather is expected from March 29 to March 31. (KNO)
