SRINAGAR: Jammu region has completed the construction of 7923 bunkers in the border areas to help the people take shelter in case of shelling, an official spokesman said.
These include 6964 individual bunkers and 959 community bunkers. Divisional Commissioner was also informed that 9905 bunkers are under execution and are at different stages of construction.
The concerned DCs informed that 1592 bunkers including community and individual bunkers have been completed in district Samba, 1228 in district Jammu, 1521 in district Kathua, 2656 in district Rajouri and 926 in district Poonch.
The bunkers are a key shelter for the people living near the International Border or the Line of Control during the shelling exchanges between the two armies. However, the borders are silent as the two sides are religiously respecting the renewed ceasefire understanding that has already completed 100 days.
