SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge sheet against a postal assistant accused of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,500 for facilitating the release of a subsidy under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).
The charge sheet against Mudasir Ahmad Najar, posted at the Sub Post Office Bandipora, was presented before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Baramulla, on October 19, 2026, for trial, officials said on Monday.
According to officials, the case originated from a complaint alleging that Najar had sought illegal gratification to facilitate the release of the subsidy component due to the complainant.
The complainant had obtained financial assistance from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Pampore, for a business unit in Bandipora. A subsidy of Rs 1.75 lakh was pending, subject to physical verification and geo-tagging by the accused public servant, they said.
Following discreet verification of the complaint, the ACB registered FIR No. 05/2025 at Police Station ACB Baramulla under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
During the investigation, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 6,500 from the complainant. He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody, officials said.
The ACB said the investigation established the allegations, and the competent authority granted the requisite sanction for prosecution after examining the material collected against the accused.
The charge sheet has now been submitted to the court for judicial determination.
