SRINAGAR: Punjab Police have launched an investigation after a stone was allegedly thrown at a Srinagar-bound passenger bus near Doraha in Ludhiana district late Sunday night, cracking a window on the passenger side.
Khanna SP (D) Rakesh Yadav said police received information about the incident through the 112 helpline at around 11 pm to 11.30 pm on October 18. A police team reached the spot and searched the area.
According to Yadav, the bus operated by a private transport company usually leaves Delhi at around 4 pm and travels to Srinagar via Jammu. A stone was thrown from the left side, striking a window near the passenger section and causing it to crack.
He said the driver’s statement had been recorded and the circumstances examined. The Senior Superintendent of Police had taken the incident seriously, and a digital and technical team had been formed to investigate the case under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police.
Bus driver Ishfaq Ahmad, who works for Star World Ventures, said passengers, including women and children, were inside the vehicle when the incident occurred. He said the attack frightened those on board, but nobody was injured.
The identities of those responsible and the motive behind the incident were not immediately known. Police had not confirmed any arrests.
The incident occurred less than a day after another Kashmir-bound bus was allegedly attacked with stones and bricks near a roadside eatery in Nilokheri in Haryana’s Karnal district on Saturday night. An elderly passenger and a dhaba employee were injured in that incident.
