SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was adjourned for half an hour on Friday after BJP members protested over a reference to the 2000 autonomy resolution in Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution seeking restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP legislators entered the Well of the House and raised slogans, including “Jahan hua balidan Mukherjee, woh Kashmir hamara hai” and “Jo Kashmir hamara hai, woh saara ka saara hai.”
The disruption came during the discussion on Abdullah’s resolution, which calls for the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
National Conference members defended the reference to the earlier resolution, maintaining that the party would continue to pursue the rights of Jammu and Kashmir.
As the protests continued, members from both sides raised slogans, leading Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to intervene. The continuing commotion prompted him to adjourn the House for 30 minutes.
