SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has admitted a Private Member’s Resolution moved by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, proposing a one-time exemption of all outstanding electricity tariff dues for domestic consumers across the Union Territory.

According to an official communication issued by the Assembly Secretariat, the Speaker admitted the resolution under Rule 179 read with Rule 28 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
Titled “One-Time Exemption of All Outstanding Dues on Account of Electric Tariff to Domestic Consumers”, the resolution seeks to offer relief to thousands of households burdened by accumulated power bills. If approved, the proposal would provide significant respite to low-income families struggling under financial stress.
The issue of unpaid power dues has been a concern in Jammu and Kashmir, with consumers repeatedly demanding relief amid complaints of erratic supply and increasing tariffs.
The outcome of the October 22 ballot will determine whether Fayaz’s resolution is listed for detailed discussion in the forthcoming Assembly session.
