SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Monday passed a resolution urging the Government of India to immediately restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah moved the resolution in the House, which said the demand was in addition to resolutions passed by the Assembly on June 26, 2000 and November 6, 2024.
The resolution called upon the Government of India for the “immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir” and resolved that it be forwarded to the Union Government.
The passage of the resolution was accompanied by an uproar in the House, with BJP legislators walking out amid sloganeering during the proceedings.
The resolution was taken up after the listed business for the day had been completed. Following its passage and completion of the day’s business, the Assembly was adjourned and is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday.
