SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to take up for consideration and passage a Bill seeking major changes to the cooperative societies framework in the Union Territory during its sitting on Tuesday.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2026, will be moved by Minister for Cooperatives Javid Ahmad Dar, according to the List of Business issued by the Assembly Secretariat.
The Bill proposes amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, besides repealing the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.
It also seeks to provide transitional arrangements for self-reliant cooperatives by bringing them under the framework of the 1989 Act.
The legislation will be considered along with a resolution concerning the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for teachers appointed before January 1, 2019.
School Education Minister Sakeena Itoo will move the resolution, through which the House will urge the Union Government to amend Section 23 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, to exempt such teachers from appearing in the TET.
The resolution will also urge the Union Government to take necessary legal steps and issue the required notification through the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to give effect to the proposed exemption.
The Assembly is scheduled to meet at 10 am on Tuesday. The sitting will also include Question Hour, with questions listed separately for the day.
