SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take up several issues of public importance, including the alleged non-functionality of ventilators at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, shortage of functional water tankers in Sopore and closure of roads due to landslides, during its sitting tomorrow.
As per the List of Business issued by the Assembly Secretariat, MLA Javid Hassan Baig will call the attention of the Health and Medical Education Minister towards the situation arising from the alleged non-functionality of ventilators at GMC Baramulla and lapses in critical-care preparedness.
MLA Irshad Rasool Kar will raise the issue of an acute shortage of functional water tankers in Sopore constituency, which has resulted in severe water scarcity in the area.
The House will also take up the issue of roads affected by landslides, with MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia scheduled to draw the attention of the Public Works Minister towards the closure of roads from Nagulta-Razar and Gujad Chirdi to Thenidhar.
The closure of these roads has disrupted traffic movement and caused inconvenience to the general public, according to the listed business.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Housing and Urban Development portfolio, is scheduled to introduce a Bill seeking to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000.
The Assembly will also take up further discussion on a resolution already moved by the School Education Minister on September 22.
A large number of Private Members’ Bills are also listed for introduction during the sitting.
These include proposed legislation on protection of Karewas, plastic pollution, polythene, healthcare, employment rights, sustainable tourism, illegal fishing, agricultural land conversion and welfare of senior citizens.
Among them, MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat is scheduled to introduce a Bill seeking uniformity in the design, construction and aesthetic of structures in Kashmir Valley to preserve its cultural and ecological landscape.
Javid Hassan Baig is scheduled to introduce a Bill aimed at preventing plastic pollution in Jammu and Kashmir, while Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah has proposed legislation seeking to prohibit the import, manufacture and sale of polythene in Kashmir Valley.
Several healthcare-related Private Members’ Bills are also listed, including proposals concerning free healthcare for people suffering from life-consuming diseases and free and timely emergency healthcare and essential medical services.
The Assembly sitting is scheduled to begin at 10 am on Thursday, September 24, according to the List of Business.
