SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Bank has warned pensioners against a fraudulent “JK Pension Card” advertisement circulating on social media and other online platforms, cautioning that cybercriminals may use fake links and applications to gain unauthorised access to mobile phones and banking accounts.
The bank said modified versions of the advertisement, offering pension-related cards, updates or benefits, were being circulated through platforms including WhatsApp, Facebook and Telegram.
According to the bank, victims may be directed to download harmful APK files or applications after clicking such links. These fraudulent applications can seek access to SMS messages, call logs and accessibility settings, potentially enabling fraudsters to intercept one-time passwords (OTPs) and obtain sensitive banking information.
JK Bank advised customers not to click on links received through such advertisements or messages and warned them against sharing debit card details, CVV, PIN, OTPs or internet and mobile banking credentials with anyone.
The bank also urged pensioners not to install APK files or applications received through unknown links or social media messages. Any request to install an application or disclose confidential banking information to obtain pension-related benefits should be treated as fraudulent, it said.
Customers who suspect that they have fallen victim to the scam have been advised to immediately contact their bank and block digital banking channels through the mPay Delight Plus app, the bank’s official website or its Contact Centre at 18008902122.
The bank further advised victims to report cyber fraud through the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal. It also advised users to uninstall suspicious applications or reset their mobile devices to factory settings where necessary.
JK Bank urged pensioners to share the warning with fellow pensioners and others to help prevent further victims of the fraud.
