Jammu Kashmir-Born Lawyer Appointed Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir native Monica Chhibber Sharma has been appointed an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and took oath along with eight other newly appointed judges.

She was administered the oath by Acting Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra on Saturday, following the issuance of her warrant of appointment by President Droupadi Murmu on August 20.

Her appointment was made on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant.

Sharma was born and brought up in Jammu and completed her schooling at St Mary’s Presentation Convent High School, Gandhi Nagar, and MHAC, Nagbani. She pursued her B.Com from Government Women College, Parade.

She belongs to the Chhibber family of Jammu and began her legal career by practising before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court before moving to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

She subsequently served for more than 15 years in various capacities in the Office of the Advocate General, Punjab, before resigning to enter private practice.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court Full Court designated her as a Senior Advocate last year.

Her appointment as an Additional Judge marks her elevation to the Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
