SRINAGAR: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has ordered an inquiry into a viral video purportedly showing a female employee making remarks against India, with the corporation saying it will issue her a show-cause notice if her identity and employment are established.
FCI General Manager I K Choudhary said efforts were under way to determine whether the woman featured in the video is an FCI employee and whether the voice in the recording belongs to her.
“I will issue her a show-cause notice tomorrow seeking her response, following which a thorough inquiry will be conducted,” Choudhary told reporters. He said strict action would be taken if the inquiry establishes that she made the remarks.
The woman, believed to be an FCI manager or quality control official, is purportedly heard saying that “India’s occupation of Kashmir is unjust, and it will remain unjust”.
The video has circulated widely on social media and sparked debate because the woman is believed to be a Central government employee.
Choudhary said FCI conducts police verification of its employees and reiterated that no conclusion could be reached about the authenticity of the video or the identity of the woman until the inquiry is completed.
In the purported recording, the woman is also heard saying that holding a government job does not necessarily mean becoming part of the mainstream. She reportedly refers to a “resistance movement”, employment needs and deaths in Kashmir over the past three decades.
Choudhary said that if the woman is confirmed to be an FCI employee and the allegations are established, the corporation would take stringent action.
The authenticity of the video and the identity of the woman featured in it could not be independently verified.
