SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir received Rs 96.58 crore as the Central share under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) during the financial year 2025-26, while 4.08 lakh cashless hospital admissions were authorised and 2.97 lakh Ayushman Cards were generated in the Union Territory, the Union Government informed Parliament on Friday.
Replying to a starred question in the Lok Sabha, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said the Centre released Rs 8,438.27 crore to States and Union Territories under AB-PMJAY during 2025-26. Since the scheme’s inception in 2018-19, Jammu and Kashmir has received a cumulative Rs 430.74 crore as the Central share up to 31 July 2026.
Nationally, the scheme recorded the creation of 3.75 crore Ayushman Cards, authorised 2.74 crore hospital admissions, and empanelled 5,074 hospitals during 2025-26.
The Minister said AB-PMJAY, which provides cashless health insurance cover of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation, is implemented across all States and Union Territories, with several States integrating it with their own health insurance schemes.
On fraud prevention, the Government said the National Health Authority operates a zero-tolerance policy using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-based systems to detect suspicious claims, including duplicate entries, inflated procedures, unauthorised billing and misuse of patient identities. All flagged claims are scrutinised within 24 hours before payment.
According to the Government, the strengthened pre-payment verification system has prevented fraudulent payouts worth Rs 676.14 crore as of 31 July 2026.
The Minister further informed the House that, as of 31 May 2026, authorities had de-empanelled 2,359 hospitals, suspended 1,200 hospitals, lodged 29 FIRs, and imposed penalties totalling Rs 328.49 crore against hospitals found violating scheme guidelines across the country.
