SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the establishment of two Permanent Lok Adalats at Jammu and Srinagar to provide an alternative forum for settling disputes, particularly in matters covered under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The Permanent Lok Adalats will be established at the divisional level under Section 22-B of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987, according to Government Order No. 10061-JK(LD) of 2026 issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on August 11.
The government has sanctioned 14 posts and positions for the two Lok Adalats, with seven positions for each centre.
Each Permanent Lok Adalat will have a Chairman, who will be a retired District and Sessions Judge, along with a Reader, Personal Assistant-cum-Junior Scale Stenographer, Senior Assistant, Process Server and Orderly. Each Lok Adalat will also have a Member serving with the Chairman.
The order provides for two posts each of Chairman, Reader, P.A.-cum-Junior Scale Stenographer, Senior Assistant, Process Server and Orderly.
The two Members with the Chairmen will be engaged on a fixed payment of Rs 12,000 per Lok Adalat, based on four sittings a month at Rs 3,000 per sitting.
The posts carry different pay scales, with the Chairmen to receive the prescribed scale of J-5 (Rs 14,480-Rs 19,660), minus pension, while the Reader posts carry Level-7 (Rs 44,900-Rs 1,42,400). The P.A.-cum-Junior Scale Stenographer posts are in Level-6B (Rs 35,600-Rs 1,12,800), Senior Assistants in Level-5 (Rs 29,200-Rs 92,300), Process Servers in Level-2 (Rs 19,900-Rs 63,200) and Orderlies in SLI (Rs 14,800-Rs 47,100).
The sanction follows Council of Ministers Decision No. 95/10/2026 dated August 4, 2026.
The order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance Department, conveyed through UO No. 7759074 FD-Code/452/2026-12/121 dated June 18, 2026.
