SRINAGAR: Security has been stepped up across Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Independence Day, with police, Army and Central Armed Police Forces intensifying surveillance, vehicle checks, frisking, patrolling and search operations across the Union Territory.
A senior security official said that additional security measures have been put in place in sensitive areas, including major towns, district headquarters, vital installations, vulnerable locations and key entry and exit points.
A multi-layered security arrangement has been activated across districts, with additional personnel deployed at important locations and around venues scheduled to host Independence Day functions, the official said.
Security forces have increased area domination and patrolling, while search and sanitisation operations are being conducted in vulnerable areas to prevent any attempt to disrupt the celebrations, officials said.
Drones and other surveillance equipment are being used to monitor sensitive areas and event venues, while sniffer dogs have been deployed for anti-sabotage checks and searches.
Additional checkpoints have also been established at strategic locations, where security personnel are conducting random and targeted checks of vehicles and individuals to detect suspicious movement.
The Line of Control and International Border are under heightened surveillance, with the Army and Border Security Force maintaining increased vigil along the frontiers and coordinating with other security agencies.
Senior officers have also reviewed security arrangements and operational preparedness in border districts, officials said.
