SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the construction of two Unity Malls—one each in Srinagar and Jammu—at a cumulative cost of Rs 255 crore to promote local artisans, traditional crafts and regional entrepreneurship.
The announcement was made by the Office of the Chief Minister in an official statement on X, describing the projects as landmark commercial initiatives that will provide dedicated spaces for the sale and promotion of handloom, handicrafts and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products from across the Union Territory.
According to the government, the two Unity Malls are aimed at creating improved market access for local producers while offering modern commercial infrastructure for regional entrepreneurs.
The government said the projects are expected to strengthen tourism, trade and employment opportunities in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions by providing a permanent platform for showcasing the Union Territory’s traditional crafts and artisanal products.
The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to support local industries, encourage entrepreneurship and promote Jammu and Kashmir’s cultural and handicraft heritage among visitors from across the country and abroad.
