SRINAGAR: Government departments and other entities in Jammu and Kashmir have accumulated outstanding power tariff dues of Rs 4,385.30 crore, with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) accounting for the largest share at Rs 1,476.11 crore.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Department is the second-largest defaulter, with unpaid power bills of Rs 594.25 crore, while the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has outstanding dues of Rs 344.30 crore, according to the government data.
The Home Department owes Rs 297.93 crore, while municipalities have accumulated arrears of Rs 262.75 crore.
The Army has outstanding power dues of Rs 212.75 crore, followed by the Revenue and Relief Department with Rs 170.60 crore and the Housing and Urban Development Department with Rs 166.40 crore.
The Power Development Department has unpaid dues of Rs 123.73 crore, while the Health and Medical Education Department owes Rs 100.19 crore.
Among other major defaulters, the Military Engineer Services (MES) has outstanding dues of Rs 89.50 crore, Jammu and Kashmir Cements Rs 59.57 crore and the Tourism Department Rs 57.90 crore.
The PHE’s dues alone constitute about 33.7 per cent of the total outstanding amount listed by the government.
The department-wise figures were provided by the government in response to a question raised by Sajad Lone in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
