SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has deputed four veterinary officers from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir (DULB-K) to the BSF Frontier Headquarters veterinary hospital at Humhama to perform Animal Birth Control (ABC) surgeries on dogs.
The deputation has been ordered under Government Order No. 186-JK(HUD) of 2026 issued by the Housing and Urban Development Department. The officers are scheduled to begin performing the surgeries from September 4 under the guidance of veterinary doctors at the BSF Frontier Headquarters, Humhama.
The officers deputed are Dr Shahid Mir and Dr Waseem Rehman from DULB-K, and Dr Parmeet Pal Singh and Dr Syed Qaiser Ahmad from SMC.
Under the order, Srinagar Municipal Corporation will provide food and medicines required for the surgeries and post-operative care of the dogs.
The medicines listed for the programme include Atropine, Xylazine, Ketamine, Amoxyrum Forte, Dexona, Betadeine liquid and Aluspray, besides Vicryl sutures and six-inch bandages. Feed items to be supplied include eggs, rice, wheat flour and turmeric powder.
The government has also assigned specific responsibilities to Dr Gourav Chowdhary, Nodal Officer for the ABC Programme, Housing and Urban Development Department, JK. He has been directed to coordinate with the BSF Frontier Headquarters at Humhama and monitor the attendance of veterinary doctors deputed from SMC and urban local bodies in Kashmir.
The order requires daily geo-tagged photographs to be obtained from the doctors to ensure their regularity and punctuality during the assignment.
It further states that any unauthorised absence from duty will invite action against the concerned officers under the applicable service rules.
